Course overview

You need to take this course if you work with MEWPs – learn how to set up and use them safely including checking for hazards and maintenance know-how.

Why you need this course

You’ll learn how to make sure your equipment is safe for you and others to use – and that it’s been properly maintained. There will be theory and hands-on practical elements to the course.

What you'll learn on this course

  • About different types of MEWPs and their structural parts
  • Health and safety regulations that apply to you
  • How to inspect / check / maintain / familiarise yourself with MEWPs
  • About safe operating techniques – and hazards to avoid
  • Carrying out battery maintenance and operational checks
  • Hands-on practice at operating MEWPs


You will need to bring the following equipment for this course:
  • Safety helmet with chin strap preferably
  • Gloves
  • Hi-visibility vest
  • Goggles or safety glasses

NB If you don't have a suitable harness we can sell / lend you one (IPAF approved harness kit with short adjustable restraint lanyard)

What you'll get at the end of it

Once we’ve assessed you (there will be theory and practical tests) you’ll get an IPAF Powered Access Licence (PAL) which is valid for five years, a certificate and a Log Book to record your experience.
